Oslo Christmas tree in a new light
Sustainable societies call for new rituals and habits. How do we develop ways of being together and who can take part in it? Can libraries be the platform where we develop new ways to connect with others, and influence our everyday habits for a more inclusive society?
Each year Oslo and Reykjavík strengthen their friendship by lighting the Oslo Christmas tree, that no longer is shipped from Oslo - the tree turned into a book. The donated tree has now changed into a book donation to school libraries. This habit was changed to be more environmentally friendly. Should we change other habits to become more sustainable?
We invite you an open discussion on sustainable habits. Taking part in the discussion on the future of the library as a democratic platform are:
Knut Skansen Library director of Deichman libraries
Pálína Magnúsdóttir, City Librarian of Reykjavík City Library
Hallstein Bjercke, Member of Oslo City Council
Skúli Helgason, head of Culture, Sport and Leisure Council of Reykjavík City
All welcome, no participation fee.
The discussion will be in English.
The event is organized in cooperation with the Norwegian embassy in Iceland.
