Exhibition | Arturs Zorģis
The exhibtion is Gerðuberg's summer exhibition and will open formally on June 12th at 16:00.
Welcome to my solo exhibition, a personal journey through form, feeling, and perception. Here, I invite you to see the world through my eyes—where emotion, material, and imagination converge.
The exhibition begins with a series of portraits, a long-standing passion of mine. Each face is more than a likeness; it's a story, a moment, a study of human presence. In the expressions, the subtle gestures, and the gaze, you may find windows into the soul—reflections of vulnerability, strength, and everything in between.
From there, the atmosphere shifts—enter a space shaped by steel and concrete. These sculptures, though made from rigid and industrial materials, reveal movement, softness, and surprising intimacy. Beneath their weight and strength lie gentle curves and lines that challenge the expected, inviting you to look deeper and feel beyond the surface.
The journey concludes with a playful twist: the Morphosis series. These paintings take everyday objects, body parts, and abstract forms and reimagine them through a surreal, transformative lens. Here, I explore the question "what if?"—pushing boundaries, altering contexts, and offering new ways of seeing the familiar.
Thank you for being here. I hope you enjoy the experience and leave with your own new perspectives.
Arturs Zorgis is a multidisciplinary visual artist from Latvia, currently living and working in Reykjavik, Iceland. His practice spans painting, sculpture, fabric design, and the creation of furniture and home décor. With a strong focus on sustainability, Arturs often incorporates recycled materials into his work, giving discarded objects new purpose through form, color, and texture. His art aims to balance creativity with functionality, resulting in timeless pieces that fit organically into both gallery and everyday spaces.
Since 2015, Arturs has worked as a set builder at the National Theater of Iceland, where he collaborates on the construction of theatrical sets and resolves design challenges with a creative and practical approach. In 2016, he founded ARTTU design, his own studio and brand focused on original textile work, accessories, and interior decor. He has also contributed to STEINI design, where he developed and sold his own designs alongside the brand’s offerings.
Earlier in his career, Arturs co-owned and served as creative director for TWACH clothing in Riga, producing both physical and media content that defined the brand’s identity. His creative journey is supported by a strong educational foundation, having studied at Ventspils Art School, Ventspils Creative House, and Janis Rozentāls Riga Art School. In 2011, he participated in the IDEAlaboratories Comenius Project in Estonia and Finland, a course focused on integrating contemporary art education into creative practice.
Arturs has exhibited his work in galleries and art spaces across Latvia and has participated in fashion shows in both Latvia and Iceland. Known for his hands-on approach, curiosity, and dedication, he continues to explore the boundaries of artistic expression through a blend of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design.
