Collection of Private Information
When you use the services of the Reykjavík City Library, either online or on-site, the library may collect your private information. Here is how this information is handled.

When you visit one of the Reykjavík City Libraries you may be recorded by security cameras, which are used in accordance with laws governing security recordings in public spaces. You may also be photographed incidentally when attending an event at the library, where pictures are routinely taken and in some cases video.
We will always notify you when we collect your private information, but in some cases this is necessary in order for you to use the library's services, online and on-site. In the cases where certain information is needed in order for a service to be performed, these services may be unavailable to you if you do not consent.
If you give us the private information of another person, we urge you to seek their consent beforehand.

Processing of Private Information
Mailing Lists
If you sign up for any of the library's mailing lists, your name and email address is recorded. This information is not used to any other purpose, but may be shared with a third party service in order for the mail to be sent.
User Surveys
If you participate in a user survey conducted by the library, some private information such as your name, age etc., may be collected. This information is only used during the collection and analysis of the particular user survey.
Library Cards
If you sign up for a library card, the library requires certain private information in order to register you as a user. The library shares this information with the Consortium of Icelandic Libraries (Landskerfi bókasafna), a publicly owned company which runs a central, web-based library system for most of the libraries in Iceland. The purpose of this is to be able to send manage your current and past loans, your reservations etc., and to notify you of ready reservations, return dates and so on. The Consortium is defined as a processor of private information in this respect.
Online Communication
When you contact the library via an online contact form, the library requires some private information in order to be able to respond to your query. Among this information will be your name and email. This information may need to be shared with different members of the library's staff in order to respond to your query, but will not be shared with any third party.
Security Cameras
When you visit any of the Reykjavík City Libraries, your private information is collected in the form of security camera recordings. The collection and management of this information is according to laws governing security recordings in public places.
Photos and Video
We sometimes take photos or video during an event hosted by the library, and if you attend such an event you may be photographed. Our staff is instructed to be respectful and act in accordance with laws governing privacy and the handling of private information.
Cookies

There is always the risk of a third party intercepting data sent or stored online. Private information is erased or rendered unusable when they are no longer being used.

Your Rights

You have the right to protest further collection and processing of your private information, to demand that your information be corrected, or that the library restricts the process or use of your private information. If requested, the library will erase your private information, except where this would break the laws governing our operations or make us unable to respond to your query. If you contact us regarding your private information we ask that you provide adequate information for us to process your query, for example your name and email address. We will respond to your query as soon as possible and no later than one month after your query is sent.
