Krakkanám | Reading Assistance for Fellaskóli students

The Family Center and Reykjavik City Library in Gerðuberg offer a reading assistance for Fellaskóli students called Krakkanám, where volunteers assist the children with their homework.

The homework assistance takes place at the library at Gerðuberg every Monday from 1:30 pm – 3 pm.

Krakkanám is a homework assistance program striving to increase literacy and empower children. Children accepted to the Krakkanám program get one-on-one tutoring from volunteers who listen to them read Icelandic, correct  pronunciation, discuss the text, and define words.  The texts read are those assigned by the student's teacher for that day's homework.  Help with other subjects such as mathematics is also provided if so desired.

Fellaskóli students in the 4th, 5th or 6th grade can apply by contacting their homeroom teacher. The number of students accepted depends on the number of volunteers available.

Would you like to volunteer?

Those interested in tutoring should contact Mariska Kappert, project manager at the Family Center in Gerðuberg.
