Car Parking and Entrance
We are located at Gerðuberg 3-5 in the Breiðholt neighborhood. There are two entrances; from the square on the north side and also from the south side of the building. There are two parking areas; on the south side, driving in from Austurberg and from the north side by the Hraunberg health clinic. The south side parking is handicap accessible. Both entrances are with double sliding doors. There are no thresholds in the building. There is an elevator and WCs on both floors.
The library and the café Cocina Rodriques is on the upper floor. Downstairs you will find the Family Center and Social Programme of the Reykjavik municipality. One both floors there are spaces for events, meetings and workshops.
We encourage all who can to use sustainable transport choices.
Baby Carriages
You are welcome to bring your children in carriages or strollers. You can store them by the entrance on the upper floor or just take them with you inside the library and other spaces in the building.
WC
On the upper floor there are two toilets, both gender neutral. There are also toilets downstairs for women and men. Three toilets are in each room and one of them for people with disabilities. There is a baby changing station.
A Place to Eat
There is a café at Gerðuberg and therefore it is not allowed to bring your own food there. But you are though welcome to bring your own food to eat inside the library.
Acoustics and Lighting
The public libraries are often quite busy but despite that there are quiet times, especially in the middle of the day. The acoustics in the house are in general good. Beeping sounds can be heard from the self-service machines, the phone rings regularly and people are talking together. Fluorscent lights and spotlights are in the ceilings. Led light decorations are in the windows during the darkest months of the year.
Guide dogs are welcome
Please note that our bigger spaces and meeting rooms for rent are not in use at the moment due to reconstruction.
