Women’s Strike at the Reykjavík City Library

On Friday, October 24th, a nationwide Women’s Strike will take place across Iceland which marks the 50th anniversary of the first Women’s Strike (Kvennafríið) on this day 1975. On this occasion, women and non-binary individuals are encouraged to withdraw from paid and unpaid work, participate in the strike and demonstrate solidarity with the demands of the Women’s Strike.

The Reykjavík City Library is proud to support this call of action and will participate wholeheartedly. Consequently, library opening hours and services on Friday, October 24th, will be as follows:

Closed – Self-Service Outside Regular Hours

Kringlan City Library – Closed during regular service hours.

Open+, self-service (unstaffed) access will be available from 08:00–11:00 and again from 18:30–22:00.

Sólheimar City Library – Closed during regular  service hours.
Open+, self-service (unstaffed) access will be available from 08:00–11:00 and again from 18:00–22:00.

 

Shortened Opening Hours – Self-Service Only

Gerðuberg City Library – Open for self-service (unstaffed) only from 08:00–12:00
Freeshop at Gerðuberg – Open for self-service (unstaffed) only from 08:00–13:30

 

Shortened Opening Hours – Staffed Service

Grófin City Library – Reduced opening hours. Staffed service will be available from 11:00–15:00. Male staff will be on duty during this time.
