100th Anniversary Celebration | The Reykjavik City Library

We are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Reykjavik City Library on the 19th April 2023!

The library is one of the oldest cultural institutions of the capital and it is turning 100 years old this year. On this occasion, we want to share good memories and stories from the past but at the same time look ahead into the future of the library together. Libraries are one of the most important pillars in modern democratic societies and we are excited to imagine the future with you.

We will celebrate this throughout the year in many different ways; a nice birthday weekend, interesting program of events and diverse cultural communication on our website and social media.

The birthday weekend will be filled with fun events for all, the libraries will display their festiveness and serve coffee and birthday cake for all who want to enjoy those days with us.

The Mayor of Reykjavík Dagur B. Eggertsson, the Library's staff and the residents of the neighborhood welcome the president of Iceland, Mr. Guðni Th. Jóhannesson to the Library in Úlfarsárdalur and will take active part in our birthday program.

A diverse program of events where everyone should be able to find something to their liking; concerts, literary events, arts & crafts workshops, orientation games, quizzes, guided tours around the libraries and much more.

In the menu to the right, you will find links to the program of each library location on the birthday weekend, 15th & 16th of April 2023.

Looking forward to seeing you all!
