Um þennan viðburð
Exhibition | New Light, New Life
Exhibition of works by Ármann Kummer Magnússon at the Árbær City Library.
Ármann was born in Reykjavík in 1981 but lived in Hvolsvöllur for his first five years. He began painting in 2006 and is mostly self‑taught. He studied at the Fjölbrautaskólinn í Garðabæ (FGB), the Technical College, folk high schools, and more.
Ármann mainly works with oil and acrylic on canvas, in addition to creating sculptures. He has also made jewelry.
According to Ármann, creating art has helped him greatly with mental health issues he has struggled with, easing feelings of anxiety. Both the process of making the artwork and the results provide him with motivation. He is organized when he begins creating and usually decides colors and the main elements before getting started. His paintings are mostly done in dense, dark colors, through which the light still shines. The same can be said of his jewelry and sculptures: the materials are tangible and thick, yet there is still lightness to the works.
Ármann has held solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions. This exhibition features acrylic paintings and sculptures and runs until March 29.
