Tengivirkið | Visit to the The Settlement Exhibition

Fimmtudagur 23. september 2021

Tengivirkið (Building Communities project) is going to The Settlement Exhibition - Step into the Viking Age. An open excavation where Viking ruins meet digital technology.

Just below ground in downtown Reykjavík, this open excavation uncovers the city’s Viking Age history. Discovered during building work in 2001, these archaeological remains turned out to be the earliest evidence of human settlement in the city, with some dating to before AD 871±2. Interactive technology immerses you in the world of the Reykjavík farm at the time of the first settlers, including how Viking Age buildings were constructed and what life was like in the hall.

Rut Ragnarsdóttir, divisional librarian at the Kringlan Culture house and Library will walk through the museum with guests of Tengivirkið. Participation is free.

We will meet there at 15:50 and the museum closes at 17:00.
The address is Aðalstræti 16, 101 Reykjavík

More about The Settlement Exhibition

The goal of the project Tengivirkið in Kringlan is to make it easier for young people, who have another native tongue than Icelandic (AM), to adapt to society, and help them build connections to the local community and each other. Participation is free.

The project is carried out in collaboration with the Laugardalur and Háaleiti Service Center, but the discussion groups are only one part of a larger project led by the Service Center. This development project is part of the library's development as an open space, where we seek to get users involved in event planning and making the space their own.
