The Icelandic Crime Wave | International crimes with Satu and Joachim

Fimmtudagur 12. september 2024

Ævar Örn Jósepsson talks to crime fiction authors Joachim B. Schmidt and Satu Rämö. Both authors moved to Iceland and have in the past few years written popular crime novels that take place here, in Raufarhöfn and Ísafjörður. Ævar himself was a pioneer in Icelandic crime fiction and will interrogate them on why they chose Iceland as their home and setting.

Joachim B. Schmidt was born in Switzerland but moved to Iceland in 2007. His first novel was published in Germany in 2013 but his crime novels on Kalmann Óðinsson have been extremely popular in Icelandic translation.

Satu Rämö was born in Finland and first came to Iceland as an economics exchange student but soon switched course to studying Icelandic culture, literature and mythology. She has written numerous non-fiction books on Iceland for Finnish audiences but her recent crime trilogy on the detective Hildur has topped the charts. The first book is due to be published in Iceland in August.

This event is a part of the program The Icelandic Crime Wave (Glæpafár á Íslandi) on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Icelandic Crime Syndicate.

The project The Icelandic Crime Wave is funded by Rannís Library Fund.
