Cyanotype Workshop with Andrea Valgerður

Sunnudagur 19. apríl 2026

Andrea Valgerður leads a cyanotype workshop at the City Library in Kringlan. The workshop is well suited for beginners and is open to anyone who wants to try this technique. The workshop is free of charge.

Andrea is a visual artist from Ísafjörður who works with text, drawing, photography, printmaking, and found materials. In her work she engages with everyday life and the personal, often using sketchbooks and diverse visual methods to explore memory, environment, and materiality.

She completed her BA in Fine Arts in 2021 and will graduate this spring with a master's degree in art education. Andrea has previously taught cyanotype workshops for both children and adults and emphasizes creating an accessible and creative space where participants can explore the technique through experimentation, play, and their own image-making.

Cyanotype (sun printing) is one of the oldest and simplest photographic processes, in which sunlight (or ultraviolet light) is used to develop an image. A light-sensitive solution is painted onto a surface such as paper or cotton, which is then left to dry. Dried plants, cut-outs, paper, and other materials are placed on top of the surface to form the composition. The piece is then exposed to UV light. The image is developed using cold water and then left to dry.
