The Little Library

The Little Library visits the youngest departments of the preschools, chock-full of board books suitable for the youngest readers. With The Little Library, parents receive a letter from the Reykjavík City Library and encouragement to nurture literacy development. All children receive a free library card until the age of 18. Parents can fill out the application form, return it to the circulation desk at the nearest Reykjavík City Library, and their children can borrow books, cartoons, music, games, and more free of charge!

How does the Little Library work?
Preschools will receive an invitation when it's their turn for the Little Library to visit. When the Little Library arrives at the preschool, children and parents can borrow books to take home for 1-2 days and then return them to the Little Library. The Little Library stays at each location for about three weeks. Parents will receive an email from the preschool a few days before the Little Library leaves the preschool with a reminder to return the books. If the books are not returned to the Little Library at the preschool, they can be returned to the nearest Reykjavík City Library. The Little Library will then return next year to visit the next generation of new preschoolers.

The Little Library project received a grant from the Library Fund.
