Tunes and Knitting

Thursday October 2nd 2025

Cozy concert and social gathering where friends and musicians Sigrún Erla Grétarsdóttir and Birna Kristín Ásbjörnsdóttir will perform an entertaining mix of jazz and popular songs.

Every Thursday at this time, a local crafting group meets at the library, and guests are warmly encouraged to bring their knitting or needlework to enjoy while listening to live music - though of course, this is by no means a requirement!

The program will feature timeless classics such as Cheek to Cheek, On the Sunny Side of the Street, Singin’ in the Rain and other beloved hits.

About the Musicians:

Birna Kristín Ásbjörnsdóttir is a pianist trained in both classical and rhythmic piano, and she is currently studying at the Iceland University of the Arts. She is active in the jazz scene and also composes and performs mantra and healing music.

Sigrún Erla Grétarsdóttir is a vocalist with a background in jazz singing and rhythmic music education. She has performed at numerous events and concerts and is an active member of Jazzkvennar, a collective honoring the works of female jazz artists such as Ella Fitzgerald.

Sigrún and Birna first met while studying at the FÍH School of Music, where they began their collaboration. Since then, they have continued to perform together regularly in various musical settings.

The duo will return for another concert on Thursday, November 20 at 13:15.
