Stofan | an interview with Pétur Eggertsson

We had a chat with Pétur Eggertsson, third participant in our second year of Stofan - A Public Living Room.
His version of Stofan will open on December 6th on the 5th floor of the Reykjavik City Library Grófin. All ages welcome so come and join us!

Which spot did you choose for your Stofa?
Floor 5 - around the records and notes but spreading throughout the floor.

What will you do in it ?
Create comfortable silence with various musical instruments and found objects.

What kind of feelings would you like to give users
A freedom of expression, an insight into the world of tiny sounds, warmth of heart and a discovery of musical tendencies.

If you could change one thing about the library and bring a new rule in, what would it be ?
Be comfortable with your own sounds - and embrace others too.

What does comfort mean to you and how do you plan on translating it beyond language during your happening ?
Comfort is a state of mind. A place where your body and mind are in a state of openness and relaxation. When your nervous system is resting. Silence can be both uncomfortable and comfortable, it just depends on how your feelings are towards it. Are you bothered by a sonic disturbance? Or do you pay attention to it and welcome it? Gestures, kindness and facial expressions are a wonderful common ground for communication beyond language and are a good starting point for the event... but hopefully music will take over as a means of communication.
