make-a-thek | Visible Mending with Emma Shannon
This Visible Mending workshop introduces simple embroidery techniques to repair and strengthen worn or damaged clothing, while celebrating the repair as a visible and decorative element rather than something to hide.
You’ll learn basic hand-stitching and embroidery methods that can be used to mend holes, tears and worn areas, adding colour, texture and character to your garments. Bring along an item of clothing you’d like to repair, and we’ll work through techniques you can continue using at home.
This workshop is open to everyone — no previous embroidery experience is needed. It’s a relaxed, hands-on session focused on repair, sustainability and reconnecting with clothing through making.
Emma Shannon is a Reykjavik based, Scottish Textile Artist and Designer whose work explores the intersection of wearable technology and traditional craft. By combining hands-on making with emerging technologies, she specialises in creating inclusive interdisciplinary spaces that foster experimentation and future-facing solutions for sustainability and creative collaboration. As a part of the Endurtakk collective and the repair cafe community her focus has been on the creative reuse, repair and reimagining of locally sourced textiles and clothing.
This event is a part of a project called make-a-thek which is funded by the EU.
