Memory Bank

Do you ever feel as though your head is like a suitcase packed with memories? Wouldn’t it be nice to air them out and see them in a new light? Who knows, a single moment could turn into a whole new story. The scent of Grandma's house could be the perfect beginning of an amusing tale or set the stage for a horror story.

During the winter 2023 people brought their memories to the library and experimented with texts, images, and simple book creations (zines). The participants then made a deposit into the newly founded Memory Bank.

The inspiring sessions were led by Lóa Hlín Hjálmtýsdóttir with the writers Auður Jónsdóttir, Eva Rún Snorradóttir  Natasha S. and Kamilla Einarsdóttir.

On the 13th of May the participants finished their creations in a open final workshop.

Later there was an opening of an exhibition with their book experiments with texts, images, and simple book creations (zines). Their shared their stories with the guests and the book creations formed the exhibition that was open until the end of May 2023. At the exhibition guests had the chance to get to know untold memories of the citizens of Reykjavik and reflect on how our stories evolve and which stories live longer at the library.
