The Reading Gang in 112 | The Marriage Portrait

In October, we’ll read The Marriage Portrait by Maggie O’Farrell, published in 2022. The story is about Lucrezia de Medici, a young girl who lived in the 16th century. At just 16 years old, she is married off to Duke Alfonso of Ferrara. At the beginning of the story, the reader learns that Lucrezia suspects her husband intends to murder her, and the narrative revolves around that suspicion. Maggie O’Farrell is especially known for her historical novels, and The Marriage Portrait was nominated for the British Women’s Prize for Fiction.

We get together once a month to discuss and delve into all kinds of literature, by Icelandic as well as foreign authors. This semester we will  though focus on Irish contempory authors.

The aim is to create a platform to discuss and share our thoughts on literature and to have a cozy time together at the library.

The books we read are available both in English and in Icelandic translations.

The meet-ups take place at Spöngin City Library in Grafarvogur, once a month from 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm.
