The Reading Gang in 112 | The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas

Tuesday November 25th 2025

In November, we’ll discuss the book The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne. The setting is Germany during World War II, and the story is told from the perspective of a nine-year-old boy named Bruno. His father is a high-ranking officer in Hitler’s regime, and the family relocates from Berlin to Auschwitz, where he works. There, Bruno meets a boy in striped pyjamas, and their friendship leads to unforeseen consequences. The book was published in 2006, and a film adaptation was released in 2008.

We get together once a month to discuss and delve into all kinds of literature, by Icelandic as well as foreign authors. This semester we will  though focus on Irish contempory authors.

The aim is to create a platform to discuss and share our thoughts on literature and to have a cozy time together at the library.

The books we read are available both in English and in Icelandic translations.

The meet-ups take place at Spöngin City Library in Grafarvogur, once a month from 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm.
