Conference on Children's and Young Adult Literature | The Flood of Horror!

Saturday March 7th 2026

We invite guests to come, listen to talks, and participate in discussions about the role and status of literature for children and young people today.

This year, we are focusing on horror literature for children and young adults. For centuries we have entertained ourselves and our children with horror stories. In recent times, with the arrival of Halloween in Iceland, interest in all kinds of horror has reached new heights among children and young adults, and in the autumn, we are hit by a flood of horror in the publication of children's and young adult literature.

The conference is a collaborative project between the Association of School Library Professionals, IBBY, SFS, Síung, Upplýsing, and the Reykjavík City Library. Admission to the conference is free, but we ask guests to register their attendance here below.

Programme:

10:30-10:40 Elísabet Thoroddsen, author and moderator, opens the conference

10:40-11:10 Arngrímur Vídalín, Monsterologist and Associate Professor of Early Icelandic Literature – Horror Stories for Children from The Green Hand to the Present Day
