DesignMarch 2025 | Laboratory of Imagination
ÞYKJÓ create a future space for children
Welcome to the Lab of Imagination at DesignMarch
The Lab of Imagination is an experimental space set up especially for DesignMarch. The space is a sneak peek into the children's department of the future City Library in Tryggvagata, designed by the interdisciplinary design team ÞYKJÓ.
The Laboratory is open to the public during DesignMarch. We encourage children and their families to have fun in the space, try out various prototypes of the design and influence the process by giving feedback to the designers.

More about the Children’s Floor
The youngest visitors who will visit the future City Library in Grófin, will enjoy a creative world of “light & shadow” on a floor that will be dedicated entirely to them.
The Reykjavik City Library, the Design Team of the new Grófarhús and ÞYKJÓ are developing the Children’s Floor for for the new library in Tryggvagata. Users of the library participated in multiple workshops and conversations during the early stages of the design process and now we ask: What did they dream of? Can dreams come true?
ÞYKJÓ’s designs for the children’s floor include obstacle courses, a reading cave, a story forest, cloud cities and a toddler’s sunny valley for the children.
Vitavegur is a winning proposal for the new City Library in downtown Grófin. The design is based on communication with citizens and is carried out in regular and extensive consultation.
The Grófarhús design team: JVST architects, Inside Outside designers, Kreativa interior design, library specialist from Hanrath Architects and interdisciplinary design team ÞYKJÓ .
The Laboratory of Imagination is located in Tryggvagata 15, the building that is currently empty but connected to the main building of the library. This building will be a part of the new and transformed library.
