City Library Árbær | Ás Exhibition is a Success

Personnel in Ás Workshop/Studio are currently exhibiting their artwork at the Árbær City Library under the title No one can do everything, but everyone can do something.

The exhibition was opened in September and will end at January 5th.Almost thirty artists have their work at the exhibition. Recently the art pieces at the exhibition were replaced with new as many of them were sold and eager buyers waited. No doubt many people will be happy with the Christmas present this year.

The exhibition includes pottery, mosaics and “Drops“ which are pictures made of felted wool. The works are very colorful and cheerful, and the library's visitors have been generous with their compliments.

Þórey Gylfadóttir and Bjarnheiður Magnúsdóttir, who took care of hanging up the works, said this was the first exhibition outside the workplace. Þórey is the textile workshop supervisor and Bjarnheiður is a division manager at Ás. They were very happy to be able to exhibit outside Ás and hope they will have opportunely to do that again.

Markets are held twice a year in Ás where a variety of handmade products are for sale, made by Ás employees. The Christmas Market was recently held and was sold out. A market is also held in the spring, but in between, the store at Ás is always open during office hours.

Ás is a non-profit organization which concentrates on creating work facilities for people with reduced working capacity. One of the guiding principles in Ás is that no one can do everything, but everyone can do something.

Art has a big place in Ás. Emphasis is placed on that everyone can participate creating art pieces with material such as wool and clay. This methodology has helped many to develop further in their artistic creation.

Those interested can buy art pieces from the exhibition through the Ás-store at Ögurhvarf 6, asvin@styrktarfelag.is
