Writing workshop | How to plan a murder
How to plan a murder - structuring a crime novel from killing to ending.
This is an interactive workshop which starts with a blank piece of paper and ends, hopefully, with the outline of the perfect crime. Bring your ideas and enthusiastic participation for 2 hours of criminal creativity. This workshop is a collaboration between Reykjavík City Library, Reykjavík UNESCO City of Literature and the Iceland Noir festival.
The workshop is taught in English. Maximum number of participants is 25. Registration form can be found at the bottom of this page.
A few words about the teacher:
William Ryan is the author of six novels, including the Captain Korolev series set in 1930s Moscow and The Constant Soldier. They have been shortlisted for numerous awards, including the Irish Fiction Award, the Theakstons Crime Novel of the Year and the Crime Writer Association’s Steel, Historical and New Blood Daggers. His latest novel, The Winter Guest, is set in the Irish War of Independence and was described by Ann Cleeves as “a stunning book, beautifully written”.
William is also the author of Writers & Artists Guide to How to Write: How to plan, structure and write your novel (2021) and, with Matthew Hall, of Writing Crime Fiction for Guardian Masterclasses (2015). He has taught creative writing at the University of East Anglia and City, University of London as well as regular courses for Writers & Artists and The Irish Writers Centre.
