Information about the event
Icelandic Language Dough
Writer and artist Hallgrímur Helgason will open our dictionary of new Icelandic words on Icelandic Language Day! We will present new Icelandic words relating to Love Speech - a project that emphasizes lived experiences, emotional literacy and ownership of the language.
Icelandic is a language that belongs to all of us, just like the fight against hate speech. At the event, an impressive group of writers and activists will present their own new or favorite words:
Helen Cova
Jóhann Kristían Jóhannsson
Karólína Rós Ólafsdóttir
Miriam Petra Ómarsdóttir Awad
Natasha S.
Reyn Alpha Magnúsar
The Love Speech project is a tool for developing a more open language community and foster respectful communication. Dögg Sigmarsdóttir and Martyna Karolina Daniel, project managers of the Love Speech at the City Library, will share a few words about the project. Bookbinder Anna Zelinková will describe the process of creating a handmade dictionary from scratch.
After the readings, we will have an open mic where everyone will be welcome to contribute with their new words! And of course snacks, drinks and chats!
The event is free of charge and everyone is welcome to join us.
