Information about the event
Future Policing: Safety Without Force?
This event explores police-minority relations, through a presentation, and group discussion with experts, activists, and policy makers sustaining an informed debate. Drawing from recent research on ethnic minorities experiences with policing in Iceland followed by a community-led dialogue, the organizer will share insights into discrimination, hate speech, and the lived experiences of marginalized communities.
The event also serves as a hub for strategizing among residents and community members, and civil rights advocates, focusing on democratic client-centered, community-oriented approaches. Participants will explore sustainable ways to amplify their work—through initiatives like zines or partnerships with institutions—and create a supportive forum to drive change and introduce broader collaborative opportunities.
No participation fee, all welcome. The discussion will be in English and Icelandic.
This event is a part of the Future Festival of Reykjavík City Library. See the full program of Future Festival HERE.
