Make a thek | Community activation
On behalf of Reykjavík City Library at Gerðuberg, we are excited to invite you to play a role in make‑a‑Thek, a Horizon Europe project funded by the European Union. This initiative unites nine public libraries across Europe to create modular makerspaces that delve into circular fashion, traditional crafts, and local innovation, all inspired by the values of the New European Bauhaus, sustainability, inclusivity, and beauty.
Aligned with our focus on mending clothes with diverse craft methods, make‑a‑Thek seeks to co-create programs with and for every creative and crafty person aged 12–26. Through local partnerships and a core group from the community, we will shape activities that reflect their interests and cultural context. Gerðuberg Library will offer mentorship, resources, and network access. The development phase starts in September 2025, with programming launching in early 2026
We’re kicking things off with a Community Activation Day hosted in partnership with Global Innovation Gathering. This gathering is designed to bring together:
Fashion and craft practitioners
Circular economy & social innovation experts
Interested youth and community stakeholders
Our goal is to explore existing initiatives, map potential collaboration opportunities, and align partner contributions, whether through workshops, coaching, or talks, focused on the needs and ideas of our local community and industry.
