Handicraft Café | Knitted mittens from Latvia

Dagný Hermannsdóttir will tell about Latvian mitten traditions. 

In Latvia, unique traditions were created in mitten knitting. Women took great pride in designing and knitting mittens, and the patterns were varied, and different traditions were created between regions. In Latvia, an incredibly diverse and many mitten patterns have been preserved, and even today mittens are highly valued.

Dagný Hermannsdóttir is educated textile teacher and a dedicated knitter. She has gone on several knitting trips to Latvia, first to attend a course and then also as a tour guide.

Dagný is going to tell us about Latvian mitten traditions and show pictures. She will also take quite a few pairs of mittens with her, that we can study and caress.
