Storytime by the fire | Örn Árnason reads Flowers on the Roof

Saturday May 16th 2026

You are invited to a cozy outdoor storytime where we light a small fire and enjoy the outdoors. We can warm up with hot cocoa while Örn Árnason reads aloud the beloved classic Flowers on the Roof.

The book Flowers on the Roof hardly needs an introduction, as it has secured its place as a treasured classic in Icelandic children’s literature. The author is Ingibjörg Sigurðardóttir, with illustrations by Brian Pilkington. The story follows Gunnjóna, who brought the countryside with her when she moved to the city. Örn Árnason was among those who brought the story to the stage at the National Theatre of Iceland, where the production captivated audiences of all ages. Now, he will read the story for us by a small fire.

Storytime by the fire is an event series supported by the Icelandic Library Fund. All stories will be connected to nature in one way or another, with the aim of creating a memorable storytelling experience in harmony with the weather and natural surroundings.

We will meet outside by the lower entrance of Gerðuberg. Please dress according to the weather.
