Fall Break | Mountain Goats & Collages
Upp, upp, upp á fjall,
Upp á fjallsins brún.
Niður, niður, niður, niður,
Alveg niður á tún.
Many children have sung this Icelandic children’s song fondly. Grafarvogur is known for its beautiful mountain range. Wherever you look, there is a beautiful mountain that gives us a location and can serve as a compass. It can tell us many things about the weather. Is there snow in Esja today? And where is Grýla? Is there anyone on Snæfellsjökull? Why isn’t Úlfarsfell a mountain like the other mountains, just a hill (Icelandic: fell)? And are mountain peaks and ice caps the same thing?
In this workshop we will activate our creativity by exploring the beautiful mountain range that surrounds Grafarvogur.
Each child will create their own collage where we play with words and images of our mountains and in return get a better perspective of Reykjavík.
The workshop is led by Vilborg Bjarkadóttir, an artist, teacher and ethnographer.
The event is free of charge. No registration needed – first come, first served.
