Concert | Children's Culture Festival
Students in 5th grade at Borgaskóli are hosting a concert at the Children’s Culture Festival, where they will present the results of Langspil (Icelandic drone zither) workshops led by Langspil player and folklorist Eyjólfur Eyjólfsson.
In the workshops, the students learned the fundamentals of playing the Langspil, such as plucking with swan feathers, strumming, and bowing techniques.
They have also received training in ensemble performance with two members of the chamber group Nordic Affect, who play Baroque instruments, as well as with electronic musician Stefanos Skialivas, who is also a member of the Intelligent Instruments Lab at the University of Iceland.
The concert brings together the sound worlds of multiple Langspil, Baroque instruments, and artificial intelligence through improvisation and performances of Icelandic folk songs and Baroque pieces.
The students will perform in two groups, so the concerts will take place at 12:30 and 13:30 on April 22 at the Reykjavík City Library in Spöngin. The project is supported by the City of Reykjavík and the Icelandic Music Fund.
