Winners of the Reykjavík City Library Christmas Song Competition 2025

The results of the Reykjavík City Library’s 2025 Christmas Song Competition were recently announced, and the song Jól, ó þessi jól was chosen as the winning entry. The song is by María Agnesardóttir and Jóhann Víðir Erlendsson. María composed and performed the song, while Jóhann Víðir produced it. They wrote the lyrics together.

The jury was unanimous in its choice for this year’s Christmas song, stating:

"The song Jól, ó þessi jól is well-crafted in every respect. It fits perfectly on the radio, as its catchy melody makes it easy to sway along. María’s vocals are strong, and the heartfelt lyrics capture the essence of the experience many of us associate with Christmas. Jól, ó þessi jól is an excellent Christmas song that no one should miss, and we hope it finds its way onto most people’s radios this holiday season."

The Reykjavík City Library Christmas Song Competition has been held annually since 2022. This year’s jury consisted of Anna Magnúsdóttir Eirúnardóttir and Agnes Jónsdóttir, specialists at the Reykjavík City Library, and Ingi Hrafn Hilmarsson, actor and director, who won last year’s competion.
