The library in Spöngin has a wide selection of books and other interesting material. It is nice to sit down and read the newspapers or the latest magazines over a cup of coffee by the beautiful windows on the ground floor, and children can play and read in the children‘s area.

You are welcome to use the facilities as you wish – to relax, meet others or host your own event. There is always an exhibition happening in the gallery area and we offer exciting events all year round.

Location

We are located in a beautiful and bright building in Spöngin 41 in Grafarvogur. Plenty of parking spaces and there is elevator access. We encourage our users to use environmentally friendly transportation when possible.

About Spöngin

Spöngin library is a great place to relax, grab a cup of coffee, browse through the papers, or even have a nice chat with the next person. The library has many different spaces for you to enjoy, whether you want to hold a meeting, need a place to study or work, or simply just want to relax with a good book by hand.

There is plenty of space for children and their families in Spöngin. It is nice and cosy to sit down in the children‘s area and have a quality time together, reading or playing.

The Children's Area

The children's area has a good selection of children's books, in Icelandic, English and Polish. Children's books in many other languages can be found in our other libraries and it is always possible to order books to be delivered to Spöngin. Here is an overview of the languages that we have at the City Library.

Computers, Scanners and Printers

Free access to computers. Printing, scanning and photocopying for a small fee.

Rent a Space or Book a Reading Room for Free

On the upper floor you can find two reading / group work rooms, Ró and Friður , which you can book free of charge. Sjónarhóll is on the first floor, a spacious room available to rent. 

Events and Exhibitions

Everyone is welcome to send in an application with a proposal for any kind of collaboration, event, exhibition or other projects. Contact us and we will do our best to respond to applications as quickly as possible! 

Library Tours

School groups and other groups who want to get to know what the library has to offer can book library tours all year round.
