Theatre coffee | Authortalks: Þór Tulinius and Katrín Lóa Hafsteinsdóttir

Monday February 2nd 2026

Þór Tulinius and Katrín Lóa Hafsteinsdóttir will visit Grófin City Library on Monday, February 2, to discuss writing for Icelandic theatre.

Þór and Katrín Lóa are very different writers in many ways, and their two works, Bústaðurinn (The Summer House) and Mergur (Marrow), currently being performed at Tjarnarbíó, could hardly be more different. One is a tragicomic drama set in a summer house, while the other is a grotesque choral work exploring the mysteries of the human body.

Where does inspiration come from? Where does one begin when writing a play? And what kinds of plays and theatre are missing in Iceland today?

These are among the questions Þór and Katrín Lóa will explore at the Theatre Café at Grófin City Library.

Hot coffee and singing will be provided.

Everyone is warmly welcome.

About the two works:

Bústaðurinn (The Summer House) is a new play by Þór Tulinius that addresses fear of immigrants in a clever and insightful way. The same theatre group that created the Children’s Production of the Year at the 2024 Gríman Awards now presents a tragicomedy about an elderly couple in a summer house who receive an unexpected visitor.

Mergur (Marrow) by Katrín Lóa Hafsteinsdóttir places choral singing in an unexpected context, setting contrasts against one another. Bodily functions are examined in an intimate, absurd, and at the same time humorous way, and the shame associated with them is explored in depth.
