Tell me a story | Installation

Saturday April 30th 2022 - Friday May 13th 2022

An installation to honour children‘s book authors and their work.

The installation is a huge bed where people can lie down, cuddle under a giant duvet, snuggle themselves into giant pillows, and choose a children's book to listen to or read. In this way, we want adults to be able to re-experience themselves as a child in the safety of their large bed, being read to and seek the warm memories of youth. Feeling safe, warm and the love of having stories and poems read to themselves.

World Book Day was celebrated around the world on April 23rd. On this beautiful day, Tell Me a Story, an event in collaboration between the Ministry of Culture and Commerce and the Reykjavik City Library, started as an intention to underscore the great significance that children's book authors have for our community. We would like to highlight the important literary genre of children's literature and to thank children's book authors for their priceless contribution to culture and society.

Children's literature is often the child's first contact with the world of culture and art, creating the roots of diverse flowers blooming in our children and being an important link in creative and rewarding upbringing.
The purpose of Tell Me a Story is to make people think about the importance of children's literature and encourage people to give themselves and their children an important time by reading to them and encouraging them to read for themselves.
