Community Café | Home Design

Monday September 22nd 2025

Katrín Ísfeld Guðmundsdóttir, interior architect, talks about interior design.

The home is a sanctuary, and we all want it to be a cozy place that suits our personal needs, whether it's a small apartment or a large house.
Various factors can be crucial, such as lighting, layout, color choices, and more. When planning a home, problems may arise that are not immediately obvious how to solve. Interior designers are often quick to spot simple solutions that others might not notice at first glance.
According to Katrín Ísfeld, designing a home is much more personal than designing workplaces, hotels, or public buildings. When planning homes, the designer must more deeply understand who lives there, how they interact with the space, what style and colors appeal to them, and so on.
In her talk, Katrín covers the main things to keep in mind when designing a home, including the floor plan, flow, color choices, style, and more.
Katrín graduated in 2002 from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with a BSc in Interior Architecture. After spending a few years in the Netherlands following her studies, she moved to Iceland and now runs a design studio under her own name. There, she works with graphic designer Ómar Örn Sigurðsson on a variety of projects for individuals and companies, as well as importing furnishings from Italy.

The Community Café is open to everyone, and admission is free.
