Make-a-thek workshop | Bring new love to old clothes

Saturday February 14th 2026

Learn to bring new life to old shirts by adding a decorative crochet border.

Workshop facilitator Hinda Mandell will demonstrate crochet techniques and will help participants get started. A beginner’s knowledge of crochet will be helpful. Workshop participants should bring in an old button-down shirt or t-shirt made of thick material, as well as yarn and crochet hook. A few extra shirts will be available for participants who need them.
Mandell will gift yarn to participants, which was hand-dyed locally in her New York neighborhood, where she is from.

Workshop aimed at participants who are 16+.

An author and editor of books on handcraft and creative activism, Mandell is a professor in the School of Communication at the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York. Her most recent book is Global Craftivism since the Pussyhats: Handcraft Responses to Violence, War, Illness and Isolation
