Soft Networks

Together, we explore and deepen our understanding of our relationships with technology, media and the digital future, with an emphasis on caring, critical thinking, and democratic aspects. (starts in October 2026)

Love Speech

Love Speech is a tool to develop a more open language community and encourage respectful communication. We create new words that better reflect our lived realities and gather them in a large physical book, a co-created dictionary of new Icelandic words.

The Nest

The Nest is a cosy corner of Reykjavik City Library that hosts a collection of texts and media curated by users of the library. For Pride, 9 audio stories about belonging and queerness will be displayed.

Future Festival

How to future? What skills do we need to practice? How can we share what we know with each other? The Future Festival is an annual event organized by the Reykjavík City Library where we learn and practice skills together today to live in more caring futures.

Seed Library

We focus on regionally adapted seeds to further support local agriculture, contributing to a more sustainable and resilient food system. In addition to distributing seeds, the seed library actively promotes seed saving techniques, encouraging community members to preserve and share locally adapted varieties.

Pikknikk at the library

Would you speak differently to a minister if you both had your shoes off? We share food, stories, opinions in a relaxed, respectful, playful atmosphere and connect to people we might have otherwise never met.

Stofan | A Public Living Room

Stofan was a three-year spatial co-creation project (2021 to 2024), where different individuals or groups were given free rein to physically change the library space to better fit their needs and wishes.

Open Conversations

Opið samtal is a conversation platform at the library where the gap between individuals, organizations and institutions is bridged. Opið samtal aims to discuss burning issues on a peer-to-peer basis, with the aim of finding the solutions collectively and figure out how we want to use the future library as a democratic platform.

ABSENCED

ABSENCED is a performative art exhibition curated by artist and activist Khaled Barakeh in which machines produce and represent the work of artists who were all cancelled, censored, intimidated, punished, or suppressed in Europe for expressing their solidarity with Palestine.

Gerðuberg Calling

Gerðuberg calling is an experimental project in the development of the library as an open space for all and explores methods of engagements and co-creation with new users.

Blindspot

The works in this exhibition explore a personal angle on racism and exclusion within a European and Scandinavian context. The artists in this exhibition offer a unique perspective on their lived experiences as well as a place of confrontation, a potential to shift our viewpoints.
