Reykjavík City Library is offering a range of exciting free events this autumn where people can come together and practice Icelandic in a safe and welcoming environment under the guidance of experienced language teachers and writers. These events provide a unique opportunity for anyone who wants to strengthen their Icelandic skills through connection, creativity, and play.
Common Ground (Samvera)
Participants meet for conversational walks in the Elliðaárdalur valley when weather permits, or indoors where the focus is on reading and discussing news articles written in easy-to-understand Icelandic about current topics and issues.

When: Every Friday, 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM
Let’s Chat with an Accent (Spjöllum með hreim)
Participants are divided into groups according to language proficiency. Activities include board games, literary discussions, and visits to museums and cultural institutions.
Location: Grófin City Library
When: Every Saturday, 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM
Samljóða - Writing Workshops
Open creative writing workshops for those who wish to deepen their connection with the Icelandic language through creative expression. The workshops are led by the writers Karólína Rós Ólafsdóttir, Maó Alheimsdóttir, and Marjón.

When: Every Wednesday, 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM
Wool and Words (Lopi og orð)
A cozy gathering for people who enjoy crafts and would like to practice speaking Icelandic in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere at the library. Organized by Huldumál, the Association of Students of Icelandic as a Second Language.
Location: Grófin City Library
When: One Sunday each month, 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM
