Twelve-year-old Haukur Víðisson was the lucky winner in Gúndi the Goat and the Great Grass Hunt, this summer’s reading challenge organised by Reykjavík City Library, the Center for Education and School Services, and public libraries.across Iceland. Haukur was delighted to receive a book as his prize and kindly answered a few questions for us.
What’s your favourite book?
"Aukaspyrna á Akureyri (Free Kick in Akureyri) [by Gunnar Helgason]."
Which book would you recommend to your friends, and why?
"Doctor Proctor's Fart Powder [by Jo Nesbø], because it's so funny and entertaining."
Which book do you think adults should read, and why?
"The 2026 World Cup Book, so they can understand football better and learn more about the world's best players."
Where is your favourite place to read?
"In bed."
When do you most enjoy reading?
"Before I go to sleep."
What do you enjoy doing most during the summer?
"Spending time with my family, either travelling abroad or chasing the good weather around Iceland."
What fun plans do you have for this summer?
"Staying in a summer house, camping, and spending two weeks in Aðalvík."
