BORGARBÓKASAFNIÐ
Loan periods vary depending on the type of item. Books are generally loaned for 30 days, while music and films are loaned for two weeks. Items may be returned to any branch of the Reykjavík City Library, Seltjarnarnes Public Library, or Mosfellsbær Public Library.
Adults may have up to 40 items on loan at any one time. Children under the age of 18 may borrow a maximum of 15 items at a time.
A reminder notice is sent to borrowers who have registered an email address. It is the borrower’s responsibility to ensure that items are returned on time. If items are returned after the loan period has expired, daily late fees are charged in accordance with the fees and fines listing. A collection notice is sent 30 days after the due date. Parents or guardians receive collection notices for overdue items borrowed by children and teenagers.
Each loan may be renewed up to two times unless the item has been reserved by another borrower. Loans can be renewed via “My Pages” on borgarbokasafn.leitir.is, by calling the library, or by sending an email to
borgarbokasafn@borgarbokasafn.is or a message via Facebook Messenger.
It is in everyone’s interest to take good care of library materials. If an item is lost or damaged while in the borrower’s care, the borrower is responsible for the item and must pay its replacement cost. Parents or guardians are responsible for materials borrowed by children. Reykjavík City Library does not accept responsibility for any damage that videos, DVDs, or CDs owned by the library may cause to playback equipment used outside the library.
Reykjavík City Library is a public library and is open to everyone.
Welcome to the library!
