City Library's 100th anniversary | Úlfarsárdalur

On the occasion of the City Library's 100th anniversary, the President of Iceland Mr. Guðni Th. Jóhannesson will visit the City Library Úlfarsárdalur on April 16th, 2023. Everyone is welcome to the library to celebrate with us!

Reception in the lobby: The Mayor of Reykjavík Dagur B. Eggertsson, the Library's staff and the residents of the neighborhood welcome the president of Iceland, Mr. Guðni Th. Jóhannesson to the Library in Úlfarsárdalur.

Open crafts workshop in Smiðjan
There are many things to do in our workshop room, called Smiðjan. Come and fold papers, make bookmarks, boxes, boats and animals. Retired library books will also be used as crafts materials. A creative and pleasant time for the whole family.

Skemman: Open house
In Skemman, our game room, there are game computers, a scanner to process old photos, a tablet for drawing and a MIDI keyboard.  We also have a tripod for smartphones and a greenscreen suitable for micro video production. Come and check it all out!

Stortytime: The president reads for the children 
Storytimes in the children's section are very popular and a regular part of the library's event schedule. The President will read a short story for the children.

Indoor pool: Children's stories and music 
Listen to children's stories and music under water. The sound will be coming from under water speakers and will be herad under the surface. Floatation caps available on location.

The Sound studio: Open house 
In Úlfarsárdalur, the users of the Library can book a fully equiped sound studio to practice or even record their music. A band that uses the studio on a regular basis will play for the president and other guests.

100 minutes of reading
On the occasion of the 100th anniversary, elementary school children from the neighborhood will take turns in reading stories to visitors out loud, non - stop for 100 minutes.

Miðgarður (the Auditorium): Music and poetry 
The Mayor Dagur B. Eggertsson and the President Mr. Guðni Th. Jóhannesson will address the birthday guests. There will also be poetry reading and a music performance on the building's new grand piano.

Pálína Magnúsdóttir, head of the Reykjavík City Library, will end the formal program.
