VIRK’s Employment Support Program Nominates Úlfarsárdalur City Library

VIRK’s employment support program has nominated the Úlfarsárdalur City Library as one of 12 companies and institutions in the running for the VIRKT fyrirtæki (Active Company) 2026 recognition.

Unnar Geir Unnarsson, Head of Department at the Úlfarsárdalur City Library, says he sees the nomination as encouragement to keep moving in the same direction.

“We are truly delighted and grateful for this nomination. It means a great deal to us and is a real honor. We see it as recognition of a strong collaboration and as motivation to continue on the same path,” says Unnar Geir.

“For us, this collaboration actually feels quite natural,” he adds. “It’s part of our core values and aligns with the City Library’s policy of being an open and accessible space for everyone.”

In the reasoning behind the nomination, it is noted that the staff at the Úlfarsárdalur City Library demonstrate exemplary attitude and approach in their interactions with participants in VIRK’s employment support program, many of whom have reduced work capacity.
VIRK wanted to express this appreciation through the nomination and extends its sincere congratulations to the library.

“Your contribution is invaluable, and you demonstrate social responsibility in action by offering individuals in employment rehabilitation the opportunity to contribute to the workforce.”

Research has shown that employment is important for both an individual’s health and well-being, making it essential to increase workforce participation among this group.

“Our heartfelt thanks for a successful collaboration, and may it continue to grow and thrive in the future,” the statement concludes.

Encouraging Others to Do Good

VIRK works in partnership with hundreds of companies and institutions to support individuals who are completing vocational rehabilitation and taking steps back into the labor market.
The VIRKT fyrirtæki recognition was first awarded in 2023 to organizations that have excelled in their collaboration with VIRK and demonstrated strong social responsibility—while also encouraging other employers to follow suit.
