The Seed Library Sparks Children’s Curiosity

Seeds, gardening, and the wonders of nature took centre stage when young festivalgoers were introduced to Reykjavík City Library’s Seed Library during RIFF at the Nordic House.

Reykjavík City Library visited the Nordic House to introduce the Seed Library to the young audience members of the film Ísey: Náttúrubarn directed by Linda Ásgeirsdóttir. The film was screened as part of the children program of RIFF (Reykjavik International Film Festival) and follows a young child discovering nature in her two home countries: Iceland and Estonia.

During the visit we talked about seed harvesting, seed preservation, and the importance of Seed Libraries. We introduced the special library sowing calendar adapted to the Icelandic climate and the children continued the afternoon by nurturing their relationship with their surroundings and learned to pay attention to what lives around them.
