Rainbow Stories at Grófin

Regnbogasögur

Celebrating diversity through children's books!

LGBTQ+ identities and diverse family structures take centre stage in this cosy and engaging storytime. Rainbow Stories is offered for preschool children as well as students in lower and middle primary school, with the format adapted to suit each age group.

For primary school groups, the storytime is followed by an educational activity that encourages children to explore the book and its themes in greater depth, drawing on Icelandic curriculum learning objectives related to vocabulary, listening, and comprehension.

Preschool and primary school groups that book Rainbow Stories are also offered a take-home craft activity: a specially designed paper fortune teller featuring discussion prompts about diversity, ideal for sparking conversations between children and their parents or caregivers. The fortune teller was developed by Reykjavík City Library staff in consultation with Samtökin ’78, Iceland’s National Queer Organisation, and designed by Kakkalakki Design Studio.
