Lunchtime Melodies

Lunchtime Melodies is a concert series presented by Reykjavík City Library, with around six concerts held each year at Gerðuberg and Spöngin libraries.
The series originally launched in 2014 under the name Lunchtime Jazz. Over the years, many of Iceland’s most beloved musicians have performed alongside double bassist Leifur Gunnarsson, who has served as the series’ artistic director since its inception.
The aim has always been to bring live music into the city’s neighborhoods, making it possible for people to enjoy high-quality performances in their local community without having to pay admission. Lunchtime Melodies has been warmly embraced by audiences, and both adults and children have had the opportunity to experience a rich variety of music performed by some of Iceland’s finest musicians.
Leifur Gunnarsson has established himself as a respected figure in Iceland’s music scene. He graduated from FÍH in 2009 and went on to study composition and double bass at the Rytmisk Musikkonservatorium in Copenhagen, earning a Bachelor of Music degree in 2013. Jazz has long been at the heart of his work. He has served on the board of the Reykjavík Jazz Festival and has introduced jazz music to children and young people through initiatives such as Jazzhrekkurinn. Since 2014, Leifur has been the artistic director of Reykjavík City Library’s jazz concert programs for both children and adults.
Everyone is warmly welcome, and admission to all concerts is free.
