BORGARBÓKASAFNIÐ

Love Speech is a project that emphasizes the experience of communication, emotional literacy and ownership of the language. All those involved in the project were encouraged to create new Icelandic words that were then collected in this new dictionary. The dictionary is divided into chapters that correspond to various wordshops and events where words were collected. These include workshops at the City Library, workshops in elementary schools, contributions from individuals at readings and words submitted online. People could submit definitions in other languages than Icelandic and some words were submitted more than once. To simplify the reader's experience, the editors combined words that appeared more than once, translated definitions into Icelandic, adapted to Icelandic grammar or shortened definitions to make the text more accessible. The original handwritten templates were then all scanned and are also visible in the dictionary.
