The library in Árbær has a wide selection of books, magazines and other library material. The librarians are always ready to help you select and look for material of interest. You are welcome to use the space as you like – to read and relax, meet others, use the sewing machines or host your own events. We always have coffee on offer.

Árbær library offers fun and interesting events all year long. Events at the City Library are always free and everyone is welcome.

Location

We are located on the 2nd floor in Hraunbær 119. Access is good, both for parking and there is an elevator. We encourage our users to use environmentally friendly transportation when possible.

About Árbær

 The library is bright and friendly and located on the 2nd floor. There are no closed off rooms, but it is great for small groups to meet at the library. You can sit down comfortably and browse through newspapers, magazines and books with a cup of coffee or tea. We have comfortable sofas and chairs, but the library also has tables for those who want to study or work on a computer.

The Children's Area

The children's area has a good selection of children's books, both in Icelandic and English. Children's books in various languages can be found in our other libraries and it is always possible to order books to be picked up at Árbær.

Computers, scanners and printers

Free access to computers. Printing and scanning and photocopying for a small fee. See further information about printing and scanning.

Sewing machines and facilities

The Sewing Corner is a fun place to create patterns, sew, and mend. We have two regular sewing machines and one overlock machine. Those who use the sewing machines are expected to be mostly self-sufficient, but if you need assistance we host events once a month where guests get help with the sewing machine. The events are advertised in the event schedule. It is possible to book the sewing machines online.

Events and Exhibitions

Everyone is welcome to send in an application with a proposal for any kind of collaboration, event, exhibition or other projects. Contact us and we will do our best to respond to applications as quickly as possible! 

Library Tours

School groups and other groups who want to get to know what the library has to offer can book library tours all year round.
