Library Day: Reading Is Best, at Every Age

Reading Is Best, at Every Age is the theme of Library Day 2026, which is being celebrated today, 28 September.

The aims of Library Day are twofold:

• To raise awareness of the importance of libraries in society.
• To celebrate the staff who work in libraries.

In recent years, Library Day has been celebrated on International Literacy Day, 8 September. This year, however, it is being observed on Monday, 28 September, which is UNESCO’s International Day for Universal Access to Information.

Upplýsing, the Icelandic association for library and information science professionals, is marking the occasion with Morgunkorn, a programme of short talks, held at the brand-new Hafnarfjörður Library.
