BORGARBÓKASAFNIÐ

The Treasure Hunt is a creative educational project for students in 4th to 6th grade, where they practice information retrieval, as well as getting to know the collection and facilities of the Reykjavík City Library at Grófin.
When the kids arrive, a staff member reads a short story about children who must search for information to compete against a greedy witch in a trivia contest—at stake are all the village's books AND a unicorn! The kids then receive an fantastic map of the children's department, which they use to find and mark selected books within a fairy tale theme. At the end, the group gathers again and decorates their maps.
The purpose of the program is to introduce students to the library's operations, train them in alphabetical searching, finding sources in the library, and citing sources. The work is based on the competence criteria of the National Curriculum.
The treasure map and the project's graphics were created by Eysteinn Þórðarson, illustrator and designer.
