Please send us a message at borgarbokasafn@borgarbokasafn.is if you have a question that is not answered below.
Do I need a library card, prior knowledge, ID, a residence permit, Icelandic language skills, etc. to use the facilities or equipment at the Reykjavík City Library?
- Everyone is welcome, but younger children should be accompanied by an adult. A library card is only required when facilities or equipment are booked for private use and when booking the Kompan podcast studio.
Does it cost anything to use the facilities?
- No, admission is free. However, we charge a minimal materials fee for things such as vinyl cutting and button making. You can view the price list here.
Do you accept donations, such as computers or musical instruments?
- We are happy to accept equipment that is in good working condition and can support our activities!
- Please send us a message if you have something you believe could be useful.
Can I sell what I create?
- Anything you create using the library’s equipment is yours, and you may do whatever you wish with it. However, mass production is not permitted.
Can I host an event, teach, or lead a workshop in the library spaces?
- The facilities and technical equipment are not only for teachers or creative professionals, but for anyone who needs a space toshare knowledge. We welcome ideas for new workshops. Examples of workshops that have been held include image editing, photography, programming, songwriting, electronic music, and upcycling workshops.
