City Library's 100th anniversary | Miðgarður: Music and poetry
Festive program where Mr. Guðni Th. Jóhannesson, President of Iceland delivers a speech.
A musical performance with a poetry reading where poet Brynja Hjálmsdóttir sings poetry and composer Davíð Berndsen plays the building's new grand piano.
Brynja Hjálmsdóttir is a poet and writer. She was born in Reykjavík in 1992. She is the recipient of Vigdís Finnbogadóttir's motivational prize and Ljóðstafur, Jón úr Vör's motivational prize, which she received in 2022 for the poem Þegar dagar aldrei dagar aldrei. For her first book, Okfruman (2019), Brynja was nominated for the Fjöruverðlaunin prize and achieved the Bookstore Staff's Literature Award. Among other things, Okfruman was described as "one of the most interesting poetry books of the year" in Soffía Auður Birgisdóttir's review, who also said: "It is rare to see such a strong beginner's work as this book". Kona lítur við, which was published in 2021, received a nomination for the Maístjarnan poetry prize.
Davíð Berndsen is a composer, entertainer and visual artist. With his songwriting and blunt demeanor, he has sung his way into the hearts of the nation. The albums Lover in the Dark, Planet Earth and Alter Ego were all well received by listeners and critics, and he has also composed music for film, television and theatre. He is currently making the music for the television series Afturelding, which is currently on the program of RÚV (The Icelandic National Broadcasting Service).
Finally, Pálína Magnúsdóttir, head of the Reykjavík City Library, will end the formal program.
